Dimetae

DIMETAE

DIME´TAE or DEME´TAE (Δημῆται), a people in Britain, mentioned by Ptolemy (Ptol. 2.3.23) as lying west of the Silures, and having, as towns, Luentinum and Maridunum (Caer-marthen). This gives them Pembrokeshire and Carmarthen as certain portions of the area, and, probably, some parts of the neighbouring counties. Divet, as the Welsh name of a district, is the root Dimet, in its modern form.
