rebis

rebis [cf. CL res+bis] , a name for the philosopher’s stone. Cf. reiben. sic lapis est unus, una medicina, que secundum philosophos dicitur ~is, id est ex binare, sc. ex spiritu albo vel rubeo, in quo multi fatui erraverunt, diversimode exponentes illud ‘est rebis in dictis rectissima norma figuris’ Correct. Alch. 11; lapis ~is, lapis de montanis, est testudo, ~is LC 248.
