scalenos [LL < σκαληνός], a (of triangle) that has no equal sides, scalene (also as sb.). b (understood as sb.) variation, gradation. a omnis ~os est triangulus Neckam NR II 173 p. 292; quodlibet ‥ istorum dividitur in suas species specialissimas, ut triangulus in scalonom, ysochelem ‥ Bacon XV 220.  b Aschanius quasi aschalenos, id est sine gradatione interpretatur: ‘a’ non, ‘schalenos’, i. e. gradatio ‥ quia nec descendit ad defectum nec ascendit ad nimietatis abundantiam Bern. Comm. Aen. 13.
